I've always been fond of things Scottish, especially the women from the highlands - but no, we're discussing dogs here, so I'll not go down that path!
This is one of the most beautiful of all dogs and with tremendous character as well, I've noticed that westie's do have a tendancy to be a bit vocal at times, but so long as that is kept in check and they are well trained as puppies i don't see that as a problem.
Like the Scottish people themselves, the Westie is hardy and characterful! I think westie's very similiar to the cairn, for me it's just down to the white or sandy coat - not sure that all the experts agree on this though.

The Westie doesn't take well to pampering and isn't what I'd call a lap dog despite his or her size, much better on his own two feet surveying the world around and about.
