The Red Collared Whydah, so called due to the red band around his neck, is found across Southern Africa.
A hunter wrote this around 1880:-
“It is fond of haunting large reed-beds, from which it does not seem to wander far; indeed, it is so shy that one is rarely able to get a shot at it”
Well shame on that man, thankfully times have changed since then!
