Common African Waxbill and St Helena Waxbill

The Common African Waxbill is a typical member of the waxbill bird family, it is very commonly found in North Eastern and Central Africa. Regarding its suitability as a cage bird it has been written that it is most peaceable and will endure in excellent condition for many years, however the common waxbill does not breed well in captivity.

The St Helena Waxbill is similiar and is native to Southern African regions as well as Madagascar, Mauritius and St Helena where it has been introduced. They congregate in prodigeous flocks and they have a shrill piping song.
